The complex choreography they perform, as they visit flowers and engage in courtship rituals, looks like a series of daredevil stunts choreographed by an elite flying circus. Of course, they execute these death-defying feats with ease and grace.

Seeing a male Anna’s hummingbird suddenly plunge over 100 feet in a courtship dive, then abruptly pull up and hover to delicately lick nectar from a fuchsia blossom epitomizes the dichotomy of extremes these bewitching creatures embody.
